On a gala evening last night in Vienna the most representative Austrian athletes of the year were named and for winter sports it was once again a triumph.

The Austrian sportsmen of the year are decided by the vote of members of Sports Media Austria (SMA), the association of Austrian sports journalists. For the fifth time among men after those of 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Marcel Hirscher has beaten the competition thanks to his double Olympic gold and the seventh consecutive World Cup becoming the solitary leader ever to have won this recognition by detaching Hermann Maier , stopped at four.
Like last year, like Hirscher, the sports woman of the year is Anna Gasser, the snowboarder who won the Olympic gold and the World Cup of big air specialties, who preceded another Anna in the women's classification, Miss Fenninger and now Veith married, Olympic silver in the super-gee mocked for a single penny from the Czech Ester Ledecká. For the ninth consecutive year the recognition among women is won by a winter sports athlete.
