Surprising choice of the Tyrolean sprinter who, once excluded from the national team, asked and obtained (FIS ratification is missing) to run for another nation

At the age of 33 and after very difficult years, which preceded the exclusion from the federal plans of home Austria in view of the next season, Romed Baumann decided to abandon the colors of his Austria to continue his career in Germany, at the court of the DSV.
This is the "bomb" communicated directly by the OESV in the morning, in the note of greeting to one of its veterans who, at 33, is playing the last card changing country after the beauty of 279 Cup races of the World disputed (with 2 wins and 10 podiums in total, in addition to the world bronze combined with Schladming 2013).
Baumann will not lose his points on the FIS lists, even if the change of nationality will have to be ratified by the international federation in the usual spring congress at the start on Tuesday 28 May in Cavtat-Dubrovnik, Croatia.
The reasons for the farewell seem clear, with the native of Sankt Johann in Tirol who was no longer included in the plans of the Wunderteam although, in the season just ended, he had given a last flash with the 5th place in the combined Wengen, to then compete also at the World Championships (14th) in the only specialty where he appeared to still be competitive, and to end his career with national colors again combined, in the World Cup race in Bansko last February 22nd (with a 22nd place after the 4th time in the super-g test). In fact, Baumann had not been summoned for the weekend of fast races at Kvitfjell and had only played, on 22 March, the super-g of the Austrian championships finishing in 7th place.
