Bad blow for blue curling: Europeans canceled and no World Cups for the women's national team

The World Curling Federation has already canceled five events for next season, including the continental review scheduled for November in Norway.

A hard blow for international curling and for the blue movement. The World Curling Federation, under the current circumstances related to the evolution of the Covid 19 pandemic, has announced the cancellation of some of the events scheduled for the 2020-21 season. In particular, the European Championships scheduled from 21 to 28 November in Lillehammer, Norway, with the Italian national teams not involved in what would have been the great and awaited appointment of this first part of the season have been canceled. To this is added, however, a mockery for the women's blue curling: the WCF has in fact established that - given the cancellation of the previous qualifying events - to determine the participation in the next World Championships, those of 2021, will be the results obtained in the qualifying tournaments held. in 2019 integrated, lastly, by the current positions of the World Ranking. If the men's Italy is therefore included in the list of the next participants in the 2021 World Cup scheduled in Ottawa (Canada), the women's one, despite having triumphed last January in Canada in the world qualifying tournament, will instead remain excluded from the Schaffhausen world championship, in Switzerland, by virtue of the World Ranking that rewards South Korea. Otherwise, Italy will benefit from the victory last January, finding itself directly inserted in the last Olympic Qualification Tournament for Beijing 2022. In any case, the blue will have only one chance available to remove the five-circle pass unlike what was known until yesterday, when, with the certainty of participation in the next World Championships, Italcurling would have had the opportunity to earn until immediately qualified for the Beijing 2022 Winter Games in the world championship in Switzerland.
