European curling championships: a splendid Italy gives way to the Swedish masters, it will be the final for the bronze

Retornaz, Mosaner, Arman and Gonin folded in the semi-final in Lillehammer by Edin's Sweden, after a battle resolved only at the tenth end.

A historic first one step away, given that men's curling Italy has never reached the top level final. The Lillehammer European Championship saw the Azzurri play a dream up to the last, decisive end of a semifinal played at best by Retornaz and his teammates against the Swedish masters led by that champion Niklas Edin. Forward 2-1 after 4 ends, again 3-2 after the seventh, the ninth end was the crucial one with the Scandinavian overtaking at 4-3 before playing at least the pass for the extra end, which vanished on the last Joel Retornaz's shot for the final 6-3. In the final, in search of the eighth title, there are Edin and partners (who had succumbed 7-2 to the Azzurri in the round robin) but they are only applause for Joel Retornaz, Amos Mosaner, Sebastiano Arman and Simone Gonin, never so close at this goal and still with the possibility of playing for the bronze medal (won in 2018), given that Saturday at 9 am they will see it in the challenge for third place against the loser of the second semifinal between Scotland and Norway.
