Italcurling got off to a great start at the Calgary World Championships: double victory and closer Olympics

Retornaz and his teammates overtake South Korea and China, now the Azzurri await Sweden.

Two out of two. After the debut success against South Korea, the Italian men's curling team - involved in the World Cup on stage in the bubble in Calgary, Canada - also surpasses China in the second match of the world championship event. The blues of the coach Claudio Pescia and the technical director Ulrik Schmidt, impose themselves 7-4 after nine ends and thus rise to full points at the top of the standings together with Canada, Norway and the Russian curling Federation. An important step to accumulate advantage in view of qualifying for the second phase which would mean, in addition to the opportunity to play for world championship medals, also a certain Olympic pass in view of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. The blue team made up of Sebastiano Arman (second, Aeronautica Militare), Mattia Giovanella (lead, CC Cembra 88), Amos Mosaner (third, Aeronautica Militare) and Joel Retornaz (skip, Pinerolo 2006) took the lead 2-0 already in the first end and, after having suffered a point in the second round, he signed two more in the third, climbing 4-1. The decisive moment in the next hand, when the Italian team even steals the end from the opponents and signs the 5-1. Italy thus goes into control and in the eighth flies to 7-3 which is followed, before the end, by only one last point of the Chinese national team. Tonight, at 22 Italian, the third match against Sweden.
