The national wheelchair curling team in Finland: the world adventure begins

Azzurri engaged since Wednesday (debut against Canada), with the aim of returning to group A.

After the European championship, which saw both the national and the female teams in Helsingborg as protagonists, Finland will host the wheelchair curling world championship with the Italian team on the ice. Rendezvous at Lohja for Italy in group B, from Wednesday until Monday 2 December, with the clear objective of returning to the top flight and therefore in the elite of wheelchair curling, so as to play for the qualification for the Beijing Paralympics 2022 , twelve years after the last participation in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games. Egidio Marchese belonged to that team, still today one of the cornerstones of the national team, as fourth in the formation led by the coach Violetta Caldart and by the deputy Amanda Bianchi, and that will see Paolo Ioriatti, lead Angela Menardi, as skip as second alternate Gabriele Dallapiccola and Orietta Berto. "The last two retreats served to prepare us for this World Championship - explains Marchese - Before Pinerolo, we did the general tests in Cembra. The sensations are positive, but the field will give the results: we have worked so hard, now is the time to gather this qualification that we want with all our strength ". Fifteen teams are involved in the world competition, with Italy in Group A in the company of Canada, Finland, Japan, Poland, Sweden and Turkey. At the end of the round robin, first placed directly in the semifinals, second and third will cross in a playoff, with the three medal teams that will be promoted in group A. Debut for the Azzurri scheduled on Wednesday 27th, at 3.30pm Italians against Canada, then the following day double engagement with Japan and Sweden, finally on Friday with Poland and Turkey and on Saturday the last commitment of the preliminary phase with the hosts of Finland.
