The athlete of the year at FISI? It is Federica Brignone who inherits the scepter of Dorothea Wierer, winner of the 2019 edition and "beaten", so to speak considering what the biathlon champion did in the last season (encore in the World Cup and double world title in Anterselva), in the final vote in which the fans sanctioned the last verdict.
It is therefore the Aosta Valley champion, with the historic conquest (the first Italian woman to do it) of the absolute World Cup in alpine skiing, to which she also added the giant and combined crystal balls, to become the fourth consecutive woman to conquer the trophy that encompasses all federal disciplines, after Wierer last year and the double scored by Sofia Goggia in 2017 and 2018. Previously, Federico Pellegrino was the last man to graduate FISI athlete of the year.
The announcement arrived today in live social media, during the conference that President Flavio Roda held to update on the current situation, in times of Covid, for all winter disciplines and the related activities to be carried out in the next weeks. "Another splendid award, even if still received ... virtually - explained Fede Brignone during the live broadcast - Dorothea and I play a completely different sport, but what she did at the home World Cup was something unique, from two years is the best in the world and you should ask the fans why they voted for me ... "
Finally, a mention of the World Championships in Cortina: “There are 100 days to go and it will be great to compete at home, even if it will be difficult to have the heat we saw for the biathlon in Anterselva.
