Immediately after Giovanni Malagò's re-election to head of the Italian National Olympic Committee, Flavio Roda was elected among the members of the new CONI junta.

The FISI then returned to the CONI Executive at twenty years' distance from Carlo Valentino, elected in 1997. Previously appointed FISI presidents were Arrigo Gattai in 1977, Homer Vaghi in 1973 and Piero Oneglio in 1952, He was also the vice president of CONI in 1960.
Roda is therefore the fifth president of the FISI, which is headed to 2012, to join, with him as a representative of the federations Franco Chimenti (golf), Angelo Binaghi (tennis), Sabatino Aracu (race sports) and Alfio Giomi (athletics).
