At the end of today's women's slalom of the French Ski Federation it announced that the resorts of Courchevel and Meribel are officially candidates to host the 2023 Alpine Ski World Championships.
The two locations of Savoy for years are part of in particular the World Cup calendar of the female, but they never organized any world championship event. Meribel in particular has hosted the finals of the maximum skiing circuit in the 2014-2015 season to this point have been a sort of dress rehearsal for the World nomination.
At present the two French districts will have to see if only with the strong Austrian candidacy of Saalbach-Hinterglemm that last November won the internal competition of Sankt Anton am Arlberg.
According to the president of the French federation, Michel Vion, the two towns of Savoie have great chances to win the event since the 'Austria recently organized the Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming only in 2013 and in 2019 will host the Nordic World Ski Championships.
Throughout history France has hosted well-4 rainbow editions, taking into account also the Olympic events of Grenoble in 1968, the 'last of which took place in Val d' Isere in 2009.
The preliminary budget of the French bid is around 42 million euro, of which 30 million will be covered through the organized marketing activities of the FIS and the sale of television rights. The 'assignment dell''edizione 2023 will be taken by the World Council of skiing during the Salzburg conference scheduled for May 2018.
